Barbara Grahor Vovk is a Slovenian jazz and classical violist, composer, arranger, conductor, and pedagogue, In March of 2018, she received her master’s degree summa cum laude at the Ljubljana Academy of Music. Already during her studies, she audited classes in jazz harmony and jazz arrangement, which further strengthened her bond to jazz and improvisation. She is currently finishing her second master’s degree in jazz improvisation for strings with Prof. Gregor Hübner at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Munich, where she also resides and creates. Both as violist and composer, she wants to transcend the boundaries between classical music and jazz and thereby bring fresh ideas to the stage and to her work with others. She creates both as a soloist and in assorted chamber ensembles – the Samo & Barbara duo, in a duo with pianist Shuteen Erdenebaatar, in the NOVA string quartet, and in various professional orchestras. She is currently one of the art directors of the NOVA chamber orchestra.
