Jasna Žitnik is a versatile musician, singer, flautist, arranger, and pedagogue. She is versed in various areas of music ranging from music creation to music pedagogy and concert organisation. She is the artistic director and singer at the internationally acclaimed ensemble Jazzva, vocalist at the musical group Selecto, and leader of the ethno vocal ensemble Maroltovke as well as of the academic folklore group France Marolt. In recent years she has become increasingly dedicated to the charms of Slovenian folk music. She is one of the people charged with crafting the programme for the Ljubljana Vocal Festival, which explores the capacities and limits of the human voice. Last but not least, we mustn’t forget to mention her excellent arranging skills.
Jazzva entered the world of vocal music more than a decade ago. Our path is one of discovering the human voice, writing new stories, finding harmonies and playing with different colours and effects. We try to find a special relationship with each song we perform and we aspire to recreate it authentically and vividly for our audience. Jazzva’s repertoire is comprised of a wide range of genres; from pop, rock and jazz to arrangements of folk songs and more. We are not afraid of new challenges, we grow each year and so do our ambitions. We realize them by performing at home and abroad, organising our own a cappella festival, recording and attending festivals.
