Third Edition of Listen To Slovenia: Pocket Music Guide Now Available
The renewed publication offers an up-to-date overview of the Slovenian music scene in English.
SIGIC – Slovenian Music Information Centre presents the third edition of the pocket guide to Slovenian music, Listen To Slovenia: Pocket Music Guide. This is a revised and updated version of the successful editions from 2013 and 2020. The guide provides a concise yet accessible introduction to Slovenian musicians and music across all genres, from classical and contemporary art music, jazz, rock, pop, folk, and ethno, to heavy metal, experimental music, dance electronics, and, for the first time, music for film, advertising, and video games.
In addition to genre overviews, the publication includes a wealth of information, descriptions, and contact details of the most important music institutions. For further exploration, it encourages the use of the Music Slovenia online portal, as the two tools complement each other in presenting the diversity of the Slovenian scene. The guide is published in English and, as a promotional tool for Slovenian music abroad, is intended for the widest possible international audience.
Short and concise essays on individual music scenes were contributed by renowned Slovenian music journalists and experts: Primož Trdan, Gregor Pompe, Mihela Jagodic, Mario Batelić, Aleš Suša, Luka T. Zagoričnik, Katarina Juvančič, Aleksi Jercog, Boris Selko, Jaša Lorenčič, Ivan Cepanec, Jaša Bužinel, Borja Močnik, and Manca Ogrin. The editor of the publication is Dušan Mijanović.
“… With an exceptionally rich and diverse musical landscape, Slovenia – a country of only around two million inhabitants – boasts two national opera and ballet houses, a national philharmonic orchestra and choir, a symphonic radio orchestra and big band, more than 100 music festivals, approximately 150 wind orchestras, over 1,000 choirs, and countless bands and solo artists working across numerous subgenres of popular, art, experimental, and traditional music …,” wrote SIGIC Secretary General Primož Kristan in the foreword.
