Romani Music between Heritage and Politics
8th edition of the Summer Course in Musicology will take place in Budapest, from 29 June to 7 July 2026.
The 2026 course, titled Romani Music between Heritage and Politics, will explore Roma culture and heritage with a particular focus on the intersections of artistic, social, and political dimensions of music. Through a wide range of genres—including pop, authentic folk, coffee-house string bands, and rural and urban traditions—participants will gain a deeper understanding of Romani musical practices and their broader cultural contexts.
The course is organised jointly with CEU Summer University and the Forum for Folk Arts Foundation, and will be led by course director Jana Ambrózová.
