SIGIC - Slovenian Music Information Centre

Institution

SIGIC – Slovenian Music Information Centre creates a database of music spanning all genres and historical periods, publishes a web music magazine Odzven, promotes Slovenian music and music artists both nationally and internationally, releases audio recordings and issues publications on music and musical events, and organises scientific conferences, meetings and lectures on music-related topics. Pursuing an “open door” policy, it is readily accessible to the interested public (providing information virtually, on its website, as well as on site – at the SIGIC centre by its professional associates) and works in partnership with artists and institutions – creators, providers and organisers of Slovenia’s music life.

Simfonika Orchestra

The Simfonika Vrhnika Orchestra is one of Slovenia’s first amateur orchestras. Since its formation, the orchestra’s music director has been maestro Marko Fabiani, former member of the RTV Slovenia Symphony Orchestra who shares his knowledge with aspiring musicians, both young and young at heart.

Simon Dvoršak

Conductor, pianist, accompanist and assistant professor at the Academy of Music Simon Dvoršak regularly co-operates with the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Slovenian National Theatre Maribor, the RTV Slovenia Symphony Orchestra and the Maribor Festival Orchestra. He specialises in opera and music theatre. During his postgraduate studies in London, Dvoršak was involved in the production of “Into the Woods”, “West Side Story” and “Sweeny Todd” under the musical direction of the renowned Stuart Pedlar. He also devotes his time to mentoring young conductors.

Simon Krečič

In 2013, Simon Krečič was appointed Artistic Director of the Slovenian National Theatre Maribor Opera and Ballet. Maestro Krečič is a sought-after conductor of contemporary music and a regular guest of music venues around the world.

Simon Perčič

Artist

Simon Percic has appeared extensively with orchestras in most European countries. Alongside his conducting engagements, Percic has a burgeoning reputation as a teacher and adjucator and his students have achieved notable success. He was the founder and the artistic director of OrkesterkamP (Summer Music School and Festival) and Svirel (International Competition and Festival) for over a decade.

Skova in Skovani

Artist

Skova in Skovani is a Slovenian musical ensemble led by rapper, lyricist, and poet Vasja Vipotnik – Skova. Active since age 12, he gained recognition in 2016 by winning Slovenia’s first a cappella rap battle Cajt za fajt. His debut album Theatrum (2020) was critically acclaimed. To enhance live performances, he formed Skovani, a band of young musicians from groups like Kokosy and Kiwi Flash. Their sound blends social commentary with rich musical arrangements.

Skuštrane! in bradati! Festival

Festival

The Skuštrane! in bradati! Festival (The Tousled and Bearded Festival) is held each September in the city of Maribor. Launched in 2017, the festival aims to draw attention to gender inequality on Maribor’s music scene.

SkyEye

Artist

Ljubljana heavy metal group SkyEye was established in 2016. The band’s output is marked by the specific sound similar to bands such as Iron Maiden, Saxon, Judas Priest, among others.

Slamič Café

Venue

Since 2010, Slamič Café’s Wednesday concerts have featured a variety of music genres. The venue presents both national and international music artists, including well-known names. Concerts are held both in the Red Hall and, in fair weather, outdoors – on the Café’s spacious patio. Location: Ljubljana
