Festival
Emerging in 1960 as a showcase of local classic jazz bands, the festival evolved throughout the years together with the genre and today provides a discerning insight into contemporary jazz creativity. Each late June, Cankarjev dom’s stages, the Križanke open-air theatre and the park adjacent to Cankarjev dom provide the venue for concerts by world-renowned jazz artists.

Jazz Kamp Kranj was established in 2004. While a ten-day music workshop is given by internationally acclaimed jazz and pop musicians, jazz music is played on August nights in the enjoyable setting of Kranj’s urban pier at Pungert.

The Jazz Ladies group was formed two years ago by five girls with a common interest and passion for jazz music. They play mostly jazz standards, swing and bebop. Their repertoire also includes songs of Latin American origin, such as samba and bossa nova.

In 2005, many band members of the Tolmin brass band felt the need for a different musical expression. Thus, the Jazz Punt Big Band was established, uniting musicians with an affinity for jazz music. In 2013, they received the highest number of points among the participants at the International Big Band Competition in Budapest and won the golden plaque.

Drummer and composer Žan Tetičkovič, aka Jean John (1991), is a graduate of the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music (which he entered on the initiative of Reggie Workman) and was the youngest undergraduate in the history of the School’s Jazz Department to have been appointed assistant. Tetičkovič is recipient of two Young Jazz Composers Awards, a distinction presented by the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP). He leads his own jazz ensembles and projects.

Festival
The Jazz Etno Funky Festival (JEFF) will take place for the 21st consecutive year in 2025. The festival is held in the courtyard of the Regional Museum of Koper, where audiences can enjoy performances by both local and international music groups. One of the four evenings is dedicated to film.
